THE NEW AFFECT

They are an blend of stylish beats, gripping vocals and meaningful lyrics. The music THE NEW AFFECT created has many layers of sounds and instruments that are blend of analog, digital and live. This duo is based in Southern California (Los Angeles). Formed in 2008. Currently launching their debut album called Electrosoul. Singles from the debut album due to be released in Summer 2010. Additionally, The New Affect has self-released a mixtape called, On Deck in 2009. Their second mixtape Laserbeams and Fog Machines due to be released Fall 2010. The band also worked on select tracks with Romeo in 2009. The New Affect is currently open to exploring new partnerships. The band is managed by Ad Astra Management.

When I entered the room to their studio I felt a sense of magic in the air. The chemistry between the two of them was electric and as the bass started to thump, seemingly in time with my heartbeat, I was instantly drawn into their energy, into their creation, what Ive heard them call "electro soul"
As they played record after record, from a seemingly endless vault, my head was spinning with questions of "how?" and "why?" I have never heard such a synthesis of musical expression before....This was truly a partnership spun from authentic creativity without the ego and confinement that so often finds its way into popular music. I had so much I wanted to ask but I figured I'd just let them start from the beginning -- in their own words.
"We're bringing integrity back to pop music," said Michael Mercury. "Yeah, its authentic music like when you use to be able to buy analbum and play it from side A to side B. The artist's goal, at that time, was to create music with substance, music that moved you and took you somewhere," said Matty Prime.
As I let that sink in, Michael talked about how he found his love for music at a very early age, against all odds , and now he can't imagine what his life would be like without it. He went on to say that, "most people dont understand music until later in life, by that I mean its transformative power."
"I listened to music as a way to escape from the confusing world I found myself in as a kid. As I got older I started to understand music in its details, such as rhythm, lyrics and melody, which of course put me on the path to be where I'm at today," said Matty.
"Same here," said Michael.
I think Im starting to understand now, that its more than the music, more than the people making it, it's destiny. Some people have it and some people don't, without a doubt I knew they had that thing, that "it".
The burning question on my mind was, whats the experience beyond the speakers? I want to feel itI want it live! "Besides having fun and besides playing songs that our fans love to hear, we create an atmosphere in which anybody can simply let go, dance and be themselves. Sure we have lasers, sure we got the fog machine and we always pack a few new tricks up our sleeves to keep you guessing but at the end of the day whether youre seeing our show for the 1st time or the 100th time you will be what we call Affected," they said.
We continued to talk light-heartedly about some of our favorite band and tours, albums and videos, and their obsession with sneakers. I left the studio with a private copy of their highly-anticipated album, ElectroSoul (Produced by Jim Kaufman, Mastered by Bernie Grundman) in my hand and excitement in my heart...I find myself Affected.

THE NEW AFFECT OPEN DRUMMER AUDITIONS!
After a string of successful shows this Spring, THE NEW AFFECT has decided to officially open auditions for drummers. The band wants to add an additional percussive element to the live performance and with so much of their music rooted in rhythm, it only makes sense that as the shows get bigger, so do the drums!
When asked about the open position MattyP said, "Ultimately we are looking to add to the band, not fill a void. We aren't missing anything, we just continue to evolve and this is the next phase. It's important for people to understand that Michael and I are a complete team tegether, but to add to our chemistry would be a strong step forward, and if that addition eventually became more involved (such as writing songs), then that could be pretty amazing. But our expectation STARTS with someone who has the chops, has the look, and understands that this comitment is not for weekend-warriors, it's ride or die."
Lead singer Michael Mercury added, "We see this (adding a drummer) as an opportunity to not only expand on experience for the fans attending the shows, but also a chance for us to start to explore our songs in a way that we really want to live, it's closer to the spontinaity of our writing sessions...it's a win-win scenario...everybody gets a more complete experience and has more fun. Who can argue with that?" No one can argue and we don't think we'd let them if they tried. We are all very excited here at TNA HQ to see who THE NEW AFFECT selects. AD ASTRA MANGEMENT JOINS TNA!
As of May 1st, 2010 THE NEW AFFECT is proud to announce that they are adding
Ad Astra Management, LLC as the official management team for the band. Ad Astra's Owner and CEO, Christine M. Scott, will be personally working with the band. She is handling things from her offices in Boston until Summer 2010 when she will expand her opertions to Los Angeles and oversee the remaining business components for the band.
Christine Scott has many years experience working with talent from musicians, artists, producers, pro athelets and college athelets. She also has years of business management and contractual experience, formerly working with Alan Thicke Productions, ICM (Motion Pictures Business Affairs), and recruiting high-level executives for all major-league sports, and recruiting for a former Coordinator of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Ms. Scott also possesses two business degrees and a degree in Spanish, graduating Summa Cum Laude three times with a 4.0 GPA and hopes to achieve a Ph.D. one day. As of November 2009, Christine returned to her hometown of Boston, Massachusetts, where Ad Astra was launched, is currently working various consulting roles, but plans on moving back to Los Angeles in the Summer of 2010 to foucs on THE NEW AFFECT.
We are all very proud and excited to have Christine as a part of our team and look forward to a long relationship with Ms. Scott and Ad Astra Management.
